本周景点:阿瓦!

  Ava or also called Inwa is one of Myanmar’s most famous old capitals and is situated 20 kilometers south of Mandalay. It has been the heart of government on five different occasions from the 14th to the 19th century and was abandoned in 1839 due to a series of earthquakes.

  The the Island is linked by a road and rail bridge which is 1,796 meters long with the town of Sagaing.

  A tour to Inwa is a fascinating trip back in history, as it allows you to explore the remains of the ancient city, such as beautiful temples, monasteries, old city walls but also old watchtowers. Visit the most important sights in the traditional transportation method: horse carriage, which is not only fun but also contributes to the local economy or if you are an adventurous type you can also rent a bike to cycle around the island.

  The most famous sights include: Bagaya monastery, Maha Aunmye Bonzan and the Nanmyint watch tower. The monastery, also called a “Teakwood masterpiece”, was built during the reign of King Hsinbyushin from 763-1776. It is built completely out of Teak and located in the middle of wide rice fields surrounded by beautiful banana trees. The carvings and ornaments reflect typical Burmese style of architecture and artwork.

  Additionally, The Maha Aung Mye Bonzan Monastery is a well preserved brick monastery from the Konbaung dynasty. It was built by Queen Me Nu, who was the wife of King Bagyidaw of Konbaung dynasty in 1818. It was built in the same style as the wooden monasteries of its time with a multi-tiered roof, ornaments and with several Buddha images on the walls. This beautiful monastery is ocher colored and a very unique piece of architecture in Myanmar.
