　　Mingun, situated in the state of Mandalay can be reached by a local boat from Mandalay City and offers a pleasant boat ride on the Ayeyarwady River with beautiful views on the river banks.

　　Mingun is an ancient capital and is home to impressive temples, monasteries and historical monuments. The town is best known for its impressive, enormous brick Pagoda Mantaragayi, which would have been the highest Pagoda in the world had this project not been abandoned with King Bodawpaya’s death. The Pagoda reaches an impressive height of around 50 meters. It is believed that finishing the Pagoda would be bad luck and destroy the country; therefore nobody has ever finished the construction.

　　Additionally you are able to visit the legendary Mingun bell from 1808, which weighs about 90 tons; it was also manufactured by the King’s orders and is one of the heaviest, intact bells in the world.

　　A few minutes’ walk from the bell the beautiful white Hsinbyume Pagoda can be found which has a different design than other pagodas in Myanmar due to the fact that the Pagoda was modeled on the physical description of the mythical Pagoda on Mount Meru, thus the base of the Pagoda is meant to resemble the seven mountain ranges. The Pagoda offers a great view of the Ayeyarwady River and on the town of Mingun.
